PLAYER CODE OF CONDUCT

Team and Player Expectations

Players need to attend all practices and games, and do so with a positive attitude, a commitment to work hard, and with the goal of improving and growing both as an individual player and as a team player.

If a player is unable to attend a practice or a game, they must notify their coach as soon as possible. Unexcused absences will be treated with the 3-strike policy. The coaching staff will communicate with a parent for each infraction.

  • 1st unexcused absence – the player will sit out for one half of the next game.

  • 2nd unexcused absence – the player will sit out the next full game.

  • 3rd unexcused absence – the player will sit out the rest of the season.

Players need to be on time for all practices and games. If a player is going to be late for a practice or a game, they must communicate with their coach as soon as possible. Unexcused tardiness will result in loss of playing time.

  • Home Games – Players must arrive 1 hour and 15 minutes before each game.

  • Away Games – Players need to arrive 15 minutes before the bus departure time for each game.

  • Practices – Players must be completely warmed up and ready prior to practice time. Captains will start warmups prior to the start of each practice. Players need to be ready to step on the field at the start of each practice.

Game Day

Everyone is expected to participate in pre-game warmups. Proper clothing must be worn for warmups. Post-game talks from coaches will be limited to 5 minutes.

  • Dress code

    • Team warmup shirts must be worn on the bus for away games and for all home and away games.

  • Equipment

    • Players will need shin guards for all practices and games.

School Expectations

  • Players are expected to follow all school rules. The soccer field is an extension of school.

  • Players need to attend classes daily. No school, No play.

  • Players must be passing all of their classes. Players will not be allowed to play if they

  • are failing classes.

  • Players who are sent out of class for poor behavior will be treated with the 3-strike policy.

    • 1st behavior infraction – the player will sit out for one half of the next game.

    • 2nd behavior infraction – the player will sit out the next full game.

    • 3rd behavior infraction – the player will sit out the rest of the season.

Field Expectations

  • Clean up locker room or field after practices and games.

  • Be polite and respectful to school staff, coaches, referees, fans, and opponents.

  • Show class at all times.

    • Players are expected to refrain from taunting, excessive celebration, slamming or throwing equipment, swearing, slamming doors, etc.

  • Practice respect and restraint when celebrating. Never show up an opponent and celebrate away from the opponent’s bench.

Community Expectations

Players are representing their team, the Highland Park Soccer Program, and HSPSH and are expected to do so with integrity and class—both on and off the field. Be proud of your accomplishments. Behavioral issues not only impact and reflect poorly on the player—but their team, the soccer program, and the school as a whole as well.

Communicating and Addressing Concerns

If a player has a concern, they should:

  • talk to their coaches to attempt to resolve the issue.

  • talk to their coaches with their parents to attempt to resolve the issue.

  • meet with their parents, coaches, and athletic director to attempt to resolve the issue.

  • meet with their parents, coaches, athletic director and principal to attempt to resolve issue.

Parent Expectations

  • Support fellow parents.

  • Let the players play (no pressure from parents, wish them good luck before games).

  • Let the parents parent (support your player with positive comments).

  • Let the coaches coach (Parents do not instruct).

  • Let the referees referee (no yelling at the referees).

  • Have fun!

Playing Time

  • Playing time is earned.

  • Playing time is ultimately the coaches decision, so please respect that.

Athletic Letter

In order to receive an athletic letter the player must compete in three varsity level contests and be in good standing with the team at the end of the season.
